Everyone yearns for words of affirmation. We all need to be appreciated and comforted regardless of our positions. Once in a while, even the most successful chief executive or politician, will be challenged and feel threatened. The power of the inner circle plays a key role in situations like these. You need people to give you confidence that the plans are working, only that results are just delaying.

But how do you stay positive amid a pandemic that continues to cause unprecedented suffering globally?

2020 has been a year of a big health challenge. Even the tech companies making tremendous growth are worried about the ability to sustain the growth levels. Also, how do you smile to the bank when the rest are sleeping on empty stomachs, dreams shuttered as they mourn their loved ones? What if the customers cannot afford the services anymore? The pandemic has affected employment and the way of life. People are no longer saving but touching on their retirement savings to survive during the period of slowed growth and work.

The Coronavirus pandemic is real and unrelenting. New cases continue to rise. Every two days, a friend informs me about the upcoming burial of their relative or friend who has been snatched by COVID-19. Death due to Coronavirus seems farfetched until it knocks closer to home.

Because of the suspicion people have in politicians, many are rubbishing the announcements about the pandemic as political gimmicks and games. Yet the disease continues to spread and wreak havoc. The challenge of Coronavirus has always been its ability to overwhelm health services. In countries like Uganda where the total combined intensive care beds in the whole country do not exceed 500. You cannot imagine the health crisis confronting the country with the current over 18,890 COVID-19 cases and about 181 death.

Remember, some people are not reporting to the health authorities in preference to managing the disease at home. Many people are getting exposed every day. And that is what makes the pandemic a silent killer. Even as the world prepares for the vaccine which is said to have high success rates, how do you immunize over one billion people and more world-wide?

This pandemic calls for individual discipline. It is your responsibility to stay alive and protect your family and neighbors. Avoid physical meetings as much as possible and follow the Covid-19 prevention guidelines. You have only one life.
