How one lawyer caused a legal firm to run out of business

A man established a law firm. It specialized in land matters.

Over the years, he received several clients. To create stable incomes, the managing partner and founder, introduced the idea of retainer. From that time on, all clients were to be offered the opportunity to retain the law firm in consideration of a monthly fee payable by the client to the firm.

One particular land case stood out.

The client accepted to pay a monthly fee of Ugx. 500,000 in return to on-going support with a particular land case that was in court. This the lawyer advised, would reduce the overall costs of payments from time to time following case mentions in court. The case dragged on for so many years that the Son of the law firms managing partner went to law school, completed studies and came back as one of the legal staff.

The father decided to retire and leave the son in the driving seat.

Within two months, the son disposed-off the land case, that had run for over 13 years!!! Yes, 13 damn years.

The son came to his father, so proud and happy: daddy, finally your client is happy. Do you know that case of 13 years? I finally got a judgment in favour of our client. All is good now.
There was total silence.

The son said again, I got a decision on that case. Our client is very happy.

The father looked at him directly in the eyes and said: what have you done? You have stopped our income? Do you know that the case paid your school fees, and I was planning to use the income to build my retirement home now that you and your siblings are out of school?

You now know how lawyers earn. Sorry, how some lawyers earn.
