The ever-rising #covid19 cases in Uganda

    May 12, 2020 / No Comments

When you think too much about something, it becomes your reality. The coronavirus pandemic news is all over the Internet that no one would be blamed for dreaming about it. At the start, everyone was worried. Wearing face masks. Keeping social distance. And of course, few cars on the road. I have noticed things are slowly going back to normal. At my home, I see people walking by past the curfew hours of 7:0pm. And these move in groups. There are no designated numbers to call to report such people. At our local supermarket, they have always closed at 4pm.…

#covid19 cases on a steady rise in Uganda: what next?

    May 10, 2020 / No Comments

The confirmed #coronavirus confirmed cases in Uganda stand at 116 as of 10th May 2020. The good news is fifty-five (55) people have fully recovered. The good news is there are no #covid19 related death recorded. There has been a steady increase in the reported cases since lockdown was eased. This is worrying, as many people would like to go back to work. As indicated in Figures 1 and 2, there were 48 confirmed cases as of 3rd April 2020. The cases increased to 85 by 2nd May 2020. That was an increase by 37 new cases over 29 days,…

The #covid19 recovery and response strategy insights

    May 9, 2020 / No Comments

Running a business during these coronavirus times is like driving a car at night in heavy rains on a road without road marks. The journey becomes so uncertain and frustrating. Other drivers may choose to park and wait. Others take calculated risks. While others turn on the driver-assist computer in the car for night vision and they continue driving steadily. This is what is happening. The times are uncertain and ambiguous. There is just too much information on the Internet about the pandemic that the only best thing is to focus on living and surviving that worrying about what is…

From WhatsApp: Cycling is bad for the Economy

    May 5, 2020 / No Comments

Hilarious but true too Sanjay Thakrar, CEO at Euro Exim Bank Ltd got economists thinking when he said: A cyclist is a disaster for the country’s economy – He does not buy the car & does not take car loan – Does not buy car insurance – Does not buy Fuel – Does not send his car for servicing & repairs – Does not use paid Parking – Does not become Obese – Yes,…..and well, damn it !! Healthy people are not needed for the economy. They do not buy drugs. They do not go to Hospitals & Doctors. They…

    Communicating effectively during a crisis

    May 4, 2020 / No Comments

Effective communicators invest in understanding their audience. Who is who in the audience and what are their expectations? As the world navigates through a pandemic, the tone of the leaders is critical. People want to listen to clear directives and a message of hope, backed with facts and data. This is not the time to point fingers. It is a time to bring everyone on the table and focus on confronting a common enemy. People are always looking for cues and listening to the leader’s tone. Is it hazy or clear? Is it consistent or not? Is it strategic or…
