How will you measure your life, book review

Below is a summary and key learning points from the book, How will you Measure Your Life, by Clayton M. Christensen, James Allworth, and Karen Dillon. I know you have a lot on your table. Take a few minutes to gain key insights from this fantastic book by Clayton et al.

Work, work and lots of work. It is easy to focus on work that you may forget about things that matter: the ‘why’ of your life and how to give it a meaning. The book will help you find a purpose for your life. How do you live a life of integrity and not go to jail? The book challenges you to make winning choices and take action.

What is the most important thing to you? You will learn about ‘motivators’ – the essential ingredients to help enjoy your work like challenging responsibilities, recognition, responsibility, and personal growth. As you can see, these go beyond compensation, working conditions, and job titles.

The book is divided into three sections – section one provides insights on how to find happiness in your life, section two is about finding happiness in your relationships and section three staying out of jail.

Using the case of Diana, one of the lab technicians at a company the author founded, he was fascinated by the love Diana and her husband had for their two children. This made him realize that motivation trumps money when it comes to job satisfaction.
