Mom called that one of her friends in the village want me to bring his 23-year-old son to Kampala. I said great. Please invite your friend and his son, put on speakerphone and I talk to them.

Me: Thanks for thinking big. For wanting to come to Kampala, the place where the best in the country come.

Father: You are welcome. Thanks for calling. My son saw the progress you have made and asked me to contact you through Adyeeri, your mother.

Me: Fantastic. Since schools resume in January 2022. I want your son to start working at my farm in the village for these 2 months. I will be paying him UGX. 300,000. He has to look after the goats, garden, and compound.

Son: For me, I cannot manage to look after goats.

Father: Eh, my son. Why? You can look after them.

Son: No. I want to go to Kampala. At least I can be a gatekeeper or clean the compound.

Me: If you cannot win while in the village, you cannot win in Kampala. When you make up your mind, do let me know. I have another meeting coming.

Lessons:

1) People who win in big cities, first win in their small spaces.

2) Young people can make more opportunities by starting helping out at village farms, getting close with the rich man, and then showing your interest in progress.

3) Everyone is looking for a person to mentor and support as long as they can be trusted. Identify a rich man in your village. Go there and ask to help out at their home. Be a trusted buddy. A loyal servant. You will gain a lot.
