Happy New Year! This new year, 2020 is the start of a decade. I recommend you make a plan for a decade, with clear annual milestones. Decide how you will win – marry into a rich family, start a business or work with entrepreneurs that empower you to win or find a government job? A strategy is making choices to win given your current context and perspectives. For the next 10 years, chose well.
Here are insights that guide me:
Invest in your mind. Unless you change the way you think about life – family, money, work, relationships and God, nothing will change. Intellectual firepower is about acquiring new ideas and implementing them for your success. Read a new book. Meet a new person every week. Don’t ask people to buy your lunch. Offer to buy them lunch!
No one becomes successful because they have money. Money follows successful people. Your high academic achievements, quality networks, family and power of your ideas will make you successful. Go join the right circles so that you interact with people who are more exposed and experienced. With the knowledge you have, try to examine what everybody else is doing and do the opposite. This means you must have a grasp of the competition and your own unique capabilities. You cannot win by being just like any other person. What is your unique offering?
Many people love to enjoy their beds in the morning. Be different. Begin your day early at about 4:30 am. Some things are only available to early risers. And some things only happen at dawn. One of the characteristics of successful people is they have 2-4 hours in the morning which other people tend to waste in jam. No one can make an extra second. But by waking up early, you are able to have 3 hours than your competitors.
Health, power and wealth are things you must take by force. No one will give them to you freely. Even if they did, you would not know their value. You would soon lose them. Avoid the lift. Take the stairs and move fast. Your heart needs it.
Ignore anyone in competition with you. It is a sign that they are probably far behind you. Be the driver in front who has clear visibility of the bumps and ditches in the road so that you can dodge them in advance. Avoid worrying about past losses. Continue driving.
