“Freewheeling opportunism” is used to refer to people who lack definitiveness of purpose and direction for their lives or career. When you lack a vision or life’s purpose, you are said to be someone who does not focus as you keep hopping from one thing to another. You move with easy things that may come along. Whatever you see as an opportunity, you grab it, even if it may not be in your line of business or interests!
You are said to be someone who easily moves with the winds. When you lack a direction, anywhere the winds take you becomes your destination.
You are freewheeling.
Imagine leaving home just to drive anywhere. You are willing to go to any place, as long as someone invites you or convinces you to go there, just like that. You are likely to spend valuable time and other resources that you had not anticipated due to a lack of focus.
Get a piece of paper, ask, and answer the following:
- What is my purpose? Why I am here?
- How do I win? What things must I do to be a better version of my self today, than I was yesterday?
- Where do I play? How do you plan to make money? Who are your target customers? What products and services will you sell to them? What channels will you use to reach them?
- How will you configure to win?
Above all, define your aspiration or ambition. And the values that support it. If you want to win as a great businessperson, integrity, and hard work, should be part of your value system.
