The customer is the big boss, so should the taxpayer

money

#Mindspark “There is only one boss: the customer. And he can fire everybody in the company, from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else.” —Sam Walton

The only people this may not apply are some government employees. However, this morning I smiled when I heard a radio advert, I think being run by URA, that “Mulago hospital is ready to receive patients, and we thank the taxpayers for paying taxes”, along those lines.

This is fantastic.

But the taxpayer needs quality services when they arrive at the facility. They need short waiting times, affordable services, and exceptional customer service. “Imagine the signpost at the hospital reading, you don’t have to pay anything, the taxpayer has covered the costs.”

The fact is the taxpayer must pay!

However, when the government fails to support local businesses to thrive, and the foreign capital, flies back, the economy suffers. The pillar of any economy is local businesses that anchor sustainable growth. If certain capital is not strategic – available for re-investment in the country for a long period of time – it leads to weak economies.

But this calls for pro local investment policies and a deliberate effort by public servants to support businesspeople and locals.

We can do better. Be helpful. Meet people. Remove bureaucracy. Reply to emails. Work full 8-hours a day. Never lose people’s files and documents.

Love our jobs and know that people who come to your office don’t have time. Attend to them fast, so that they go back to work to make money, pay taxes and grow our economy.

Some of us have one citizenship – there is no other country to call home. We are born here. We shall be buried here. This is our country. It is our land. It is the only thing we have – the land of our parents, grandparents, great grandparents. Great great great grandparents. And great x5 grandparents. That is what we know.
