    You can win

    March 13, 2020 / No Comments

You can win. The first thing is to set clear targets against which you can track progress. For today: 1) Ask your immediate supervisor or colleague, what help do they need from you? If they don’t reply 2) Look at the company strategy, and identify key priorities. Make your activities around those priorities. Start doing them right away. That is when makes some people winners. To win, you need clarity of direction. Set targets and clear activities to attain them. I remain, Mustapha B Mugisa, Mr. Strategy. Copyright Mustapha B Mugisa, 2020. All rights reserved.

When a virus locks us up!

    March 13, 2020 / No Comments

Global lifestyle and way of life are being undermined by a virus COVID-19. Social interactions, networking, and communal entertainment are things that make the world flow. It is difficult, if possible, to enjoy life in isolation. Advancement in road, rail, air and water transport are the definitive developments in the 19th century that reduced the distance between nations. This deepened global collaborations in trade, tourism, and entertainment, to mention but three. One of the indicators of development is the quality of transport infrastructure – road, rail, water, and air – all these reduce time and space. The Covid-19 is affecting…

    Great investigators focus on facts

    March 11, 2020 / No Comments

Where is the evidence? What are the facts of the case? Who are the suspects? Why are they suspects? I usually tell my students the investigator’s mantra: “if you don’t have evidence that supports your statement, do not write it in the report.” To formulate the hypothesis, you need to gain an understanding of the issue – what exactly happened. What is the issue? What happened? Who did it? Why did they do it? When did they do it? The objective of any investigation is to establish facts. To find answers. To close a case, the investigator is required to…

Musings: a daughter in law letter to the mother in law!

    March 11, 2020 / No Comments

If you were born before the proliferation of computers, you wrote several letters to your friends. Me too. We were advised then, to never write letters while annoyed. It was the best advice. As an email and or WhatsApp user, this advice is timely for you too! Here is a case of writing only when you are happy. Daughter in law writing to the mother in law: “Dear Mother in Law, I received your message to me about parenting your grand-children – my daughters. Your Son said: “I should teach them table manners.” I don’t know whether you noticed how…
