The second D is to DO MORE than expected. Go the extra mile.
A story is said that in 1908, Napoleon Hill Interviewed Andrew Carnegie, one of the most successful people in the history of the United States. He asked him “why do you pay your employees small salaries and yet you earn a lot from the business, on their sweat?”
What do you think was the response by Andrew Carnegie?
He said:
“Whatever I earn, I invest it back into the business, to expand it and recruit more people so that they too have employment opportunities to win. Many people rely on my companies that means I have big responsibilities. So being rich is because I take the toughest decisions.
I pay different salaries to different staff based on the effort each puts in. Some staff put in 100%, and they get paid a lot for it. While other staff just 20%, and they too get paid what they deserve. The more responsibility one is willing to take, the more income they earn.
Men like Charles Swab are different. They have infectious passion and personality. They always go the extra mile. They do over and above what they are expected. Even if you fail to notice and reward such people, as a leader you will lose them. But because they are so few, they are always noticed, and they always get the promotions and pay they deserve. That is a law of nature.”
If you want to success, and develop, take big responsibilities.
Remember, nothing happens to you. It happens because of you.
If you want to progress, do more than expected.
