Uganda’s covid19 cases rise to 74, as imported cases increase by 11 to 19.

    April 24, 2020 / No Comments

KAMPALA, 24th April 2020: Uganda’s covid19 cases continue to rise steadily. All these cases are imported ones, and the government seems to lack a mechanism to control the cases. Being a landlocked country, Uganda’s imports come via Kenya and Tanzania ports. According to Uganda’s Ministry of Health Press Release, “The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Uganda is 74. Six (6) Tanzanian truck drivers who arrived via the Mutulkula border post and Five (5) Kenyan truck drivers (Three (3) arrived via Malaba and Two (2) arrived via Busia). The cumulative number of recovered patients is forty-six (46) out of…

From WhatsApp: General economic outlook and best practices

    April 23, 2020 / No Comments

I attended a Webinar by IMF, this morning. Key takeaways are as follows. General Outlook Africa seems to be suppressing the curve so far. It looks like it might escape the worst of the pandemic, but will have to be cautious about it. Possibility of W Curve – i.e. There is a good chance of re-occurrence of the virus, which could see a possibility of regular lockdowns. Businesses need to plan accordingly. Capital will look for countries that are less battered. Western economies are badly battered while countries in Africa, etc are not so battered. Global Capital could flow…

The skills parents must teach their children – 6 Rs of winners

    April 23, 2020 / No Comments

You have been at home with the young ones. If you are an active parent, you know how challenging it can be to help the children cope up with their studying. To win, you must designate a space as a home office and study room. This is what I have done. I designated a room. I called it the study room/home office. In case you have many rooms in your house, designate the living room as the study room from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. No television. No noise. Anyone who comes to the living room is coming to work…

The death of conventional or traditional strategic planning, part 3

    April 23, 2020 / No Comments

The term strategy is one of the most used by leaders today, yet few understand it well. Many strategic plan documents lack a “strategy.” This makes winning difficult. No company wins by luck. If such companies exist, their winning is not sustainable. A good strategy and effective execution make winning a deliberate action and the focus is on maintaining a competitive advantage.   Your competitive strengths must come from strategic intent, which must be articulated in your strategic plan in the form of a business model.  To formulate a good strategy, leaders must deploy good strategic thinking processes to come up…

#COVID-19: What are the conditions for re-opening Uganda?

    April 23, 2020 / No Comments

On March 30th, 2020, President Y. K. Museveni announced a 14-day’s lockdown of the country, thereby closing businesses and restricting movements of people as a social distancing strategy. On 14th April 2020, the President extended the lockdown period by another 21 days to May 6th, 2020. We are all waiting for the next Presidential directive. Will He extend the lockdown or lift it? Life has been disrupted, and many businesses may never recover from this. We all want to know what is next? During the lockdown, all small and medium-sized businesses deemed non-critical have been closed. Few businesses have been…

The death of conventional or traditional strategic planning, part 2

    April 22, 2020 / No Comments

What is strategy? The strategy is the process of making choices about how to win with stakeholders and customers against the competition. Read: The death of conventional or traditional strategic planning, part 1 Every person and company need a strategy – they specific way to win. At an individual level, you can strategize to win by becoming a content expert or a professional – medical doctor, engineer, lawyer or accountant, or process expert – a consultant, a mentor, or speaker. Nowadays, politicking is a profession, you could decide to become one and win. Even better, you may shortcut the process…
