When you think too much about something, it becomes your reality. The coronavirus pandemic news is all over the Internet that no one would be blamed for dreaming about it. At the start, everyone was worried. Wearing face masks. Keeping social distance. And of course, few cars on the road. I have noticed things are slowly going back to normal. At my home, I see people walking by past the curfew hours of 7:0pm. And these move in groups. There are no designated numbers to call to report such people. At our local supermarket, they have always closed at 4pm.…
Homily for Wednesday, Fifth Week of Easter Acts
Readings Acts 15:1-6 Jn 15:1-8 There is always a temptation to put limits on God, to say, in effect, that God cannot do this or that unless this or that happens. We find such a scenario in today’s first reading. Some Jewish Christians from Jerusalem came down to the church in Antioch and told converts to the faith from paganism, Gentile Christians, ‘Unless you have yourselves circumcised in the tradition of Moses, you cannot be saved’. They were saying in effect, ‘Much as God would like to include you among those who will inherit eternal life, he is powerless unless…

Homily for Tuesday, Fifth Week of Easter
Readings Acts 14:19-28 Jn 14:27-31a. In this morning’s first reading we are told that as Paul and Barnabas made their way back through the churches they had founded, ‘they put fresh heart into the disciples, encouraging them to persevere in the faith’. We all need encouragement, especially with regard to our faith and our relationship with the Lord. We need to keep putting fresh heart into each other, encouraging each other to persevere in the faith. That is what we find Jesus doing in the gospel reading. It is the night of the last supper; the disciples are feeling discouraged.…
