The Uganda Revenue Authority boss, Allen Kagina told Parliament’s finance committee on Tuesday 22nd April, 2014 that URA has incurred a revenue shortfall of Ugx 270 billions during period from November 2013 to April 2014. When asked to explain, Allen attributed the shortfall to commercial banks that provided bad debts and this affected the revenue collections by URA. She also cited the sale of Warid to Airtel Uganda having reduced taxes from the telecommunication industry. During the January 2014 NRM caucus meeting in Kyankwanzi district, Members of Parliament endorsed President Museveni for the Presidency for 2016. Will National Identity Card Registration be a success?
The National Identity Card registration kicked off on Monday 14th 2014 with a low turn-up. The activity started with challenges of few and late delivery of kits to some parishes. Registration in villages has been slow with people complaining registration forms being written in English. This proved a problem as most rural population cannot understand English. Storms destroy plantations and homes.
The last three weeks have seen heavy storms destroy parts of eastern region of Uganda which include Mukono, Namutumba, Kibale and Kaboong. Over 40 families in Mukono where left homeless after the Monday (7th April 2014) morning down pour, which left many people hospitalized with severe injuries which is no different in Butaleja, Kibale and Namutumba. Global Fund scam, former DFCU Bank officials implicated
Two former bosses of DFCU bank were yesterday charged before the anti –corruption court chief magistrate. The two, Robert Kantuntu former managing director and Godfrey Lule the banks former head of treasury both denied the charges and where released on Ugx. 3 million cash bail each. Godfrey is alleged to have frauduately directed DFCU staff to exchange Global Fund money into local currency at inflated foreign exchange rates on several occasions.
