The increasing instances of unfortunate death especially of black Americans is of concern to us all who harbor the American dream. The land of opportunities is slowly becoming the headquarters of racism, danger, and early death. It is increasingly difficult to be safe and free in America. A spate of mass shootings at innocent school children on one hand, and increasing police murders, is worrisome. The case of George Floyd who was murdered in helpless groans is very unfortunate. Imagine being handcuffed, with your stomach lying on the ground, with four police officers just looking. Do not imagine. This is…
The end of a Ravi Zacharias (March 1946 -May 2020) – a global icon falls
He taught us to speak out for what we stand for. He was not just a Christian defender. He was a teacher. A professor. An author. A leader. A mentor. A writer. An educated man. A great orator. A researcher. A philosopher. And a man who was not afraid to speak and stand for what he believed in. Many of us follow blindly the religions we inherit from our parents, grandparents, and elders. We are exposed to one religion that we practice from birth to death. We get trained in one religion. We are never educated. Accordingly, we speak from…
A tribute to Professor Joseph Kasumba Ssewanyana (1955 – 2020), a giant academician and leader
In our local language, we say “those who know, do not go around telling everyone how much they know.” A very principled and clearheaded man, Prof Joseph Kasumba Ssewanyana was a down to earth person who spoke through action. An accomplished academician and executive, he never allowed his achievements to go over his head. He was always calm, humble and a true servant of God. On 25th March 2020, Professor Joseph Ssewanyana went to be with the Lord. He was born on February 28, 1955. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Sarah Ssewanyana, and six children. And many relatives,…
Sam. F. Owori: A jolly good fellow
Sam Frobisher Owori, a man of great humility and integrity, died on July 13th, aged 76. He achieved more moral capital, most people just dream of. No one quite believed the late evening news that Sam was gone! Where, we all asked. It just wasn’t adding up: death as a result of surgery on the left leg in a US hospital! I too, refuted. It cannot be true. He had just said good bye. He had done so several times that it became normal. He always returned as promised. That was Samuel Frobisher Owori – very calm, yet firm and…
The ugly hand of death roars again: Joan Kagezi gone suddenly
Death, they say, will occur to all of us. The timing and the way it occurs is what worries all of us. Always untimely, unpredictable. At about 8:00pm on 30th March 2015, two rascals, riding on a Bodaboda took matters in their own hands to cut short Joan Kagezi’s illustrious life, an advocate and prosecutor. She stood for justice, and handled cases that shook the country. At the time of death, she was the lead prosecutor in the July 2010 terror suspects’ trial; which was scheduled to continue today 31st March 2015 at the High Court in Kampala. Sources within…
