Academics or sportsman? Which career path?

    December 18, 2020 / No Comments

I used to run the 21km half marathon competitively. While in Primary six, I remember winning several of these races in our village during local primary school competitions. But spotting talent and nurturing it is next to impossible especially if you are in a village school without opportunities to partake in the district competitions. Even if one makes it to the district, and wins, getting to the national level, let alone the regional level competitive sports event is not easy. You must be an outlier and also very lucky to get discovered. In the village, the best bet is to…

Envision the future one year from now

    December 17, 2020 / No Comments

2020 is finally coming to an end. One of the top entrepreneurs in the world, Jack Ma, is quoted to have said that “your biggest profit this year is completing the year 2020 alive.” He is spot on. So many people have died during the first half of December 2020. Rule number one is to stay alive. With life, you can dare to dream. It does not matter how much money you may have in the bank account, if life is leaving you or you are too weak to mind about it anymore, the bank balance is useless. This year…

Here is how to be safe online

    December 16, 2020 / No Comments

There are so many challenges you could easily forget about cybersecurity. However, with most children now studying online, they are inevitably exposed to cyber risks ranging from online predators to cyber bullying and impersonation. We are now in a time that has posed a concern for cybersecurity more than ever before. The top six cyber threats are children, parents, and homes exposed to doing virtual learning. 1. Phishing email messages are designed to try to get learners to share their personal information without realizing it. In many cases, the scammer will use the student’s identity to access their information and…

Too much death in December 2020: Go away Coronavirus!

    December 14, 2020 / No Comments

I have received a lot of bad news in the last two weeks, that I am becoming dizzy. The year 2020 is ending on a very bad note. The news of the passing of close friends is increasing by the day. This is so bad as we move closer to the Christmas week, usually of celebrations. I grew up in a Christian home, and have fond memories of the festivities in December, which peak on the 25th as we go to Church to celebrate Christmas Day when the Lord Jesus Christ was born. In the week of December, we would…
