The increasing number of PhD holders is a cause of concern. In Uganda, one of the causes of the problems seems to stem from the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) standard capacity indicators of a good higher institution of learning. To get better rankings, universities with most PhD holders as lecturers seem to be given more respect, regardless of the quality of the people holding the degrees. As explained by Prof. A. B. Kasozi, in today’s New Vision (April 2nd, 2014) page 19, “in Uganda, PhD holders in 2011 were only 914 (15%) out of a staff of 6,174…
Are you drowning in many job applications? Here is strategy to free your time while you select the best
As long as one is presentable and can demonstrate fluency in English and Math, to me they are good for the job. I don’t need to administer an aptitude test. That is usually for some HR folks who cannot pass aptitude themselves! See, such exercises are a waste of time and money. As a busy executive, time is my most valuable asset. I want to spend every minute I have on strategy, marketing and customer satisfaction. These days I’ve been receiving about five to 10 applicants for a job at my company. It is a good sign that we can…

Do you really need a PhD? You must read this debate of the month!
Here is a post on my LinkedIn and attracted a lot of interest. What is your take? “Many PhD holders have NOT added anything new to the body of knowledge. That’s why you shouldn’t do one UNTIL you are ready to add something new.” Here is what Patrick had to say: Patrick Mwebesa FCCAI totally agree, on LinkedIn alone there are thousands of them. One wonders how PhDs are awarded? Paul came in defense of the PhD holders: Paul MwebesaWell, one of the things you are asked to do as part of your PhD is to try and publish your…
Are you failing enough? If you fail again, it means you are alive! Keep failing
If you fail, it means you are trying. If you fail again, it means you are alive. If you fail, again and again and again, it means you seek to make a different to society. That is good of you. It means you’re not comfortable with the status quo. I cannot imagine the number of times I was discouraged from starting a business magazine (Summit Business www.sbreview.net). The first thing they would tell me was: “you’re not a journalist”. Now I know, you don’t have to be a journalist, to run a successful publications business. Since 2008, I’ve been publishing…
Pro or anti tobacco, the war goes on.
The ongoing parliamentary sittings on the issue of raising taxes on tobacco seems to have no near future end. Pro tobacco activists such as some members of parliament mainly from West Nile region, a tobacco growing area, Bunyoro and Kigezi regions emphasize that tobacco growing is a key source of revenue to the country contributing about US$ 115million annually. Tobacco is Uganda’s the second agricultural earner of foreign exchange making up 4% of the total export revenue the country received in 2013. The Managing Director of British American Tobacco Uganda (BAT) at a meeting held at BAT central purchasing point…
