The transformation of CMC into a highly successful, well-diversified automobile giant represents one of the remarkable corporate-success of the new management; Al-Futtain Automotive Group. Founded in 1960, Cooper Motor Corporation (CMC) has undergone a comprehensive organizational transformation aimed at exceeding customer needs and experience.
Speaking to Summit Consulting Ltd’s Mustapha B Mugisa, Herman Mbalasi the country manager CMC Uganda noted, “For over 60 years of successful operations, CMC has established strategic partnerships with the leading automobile manufacturers. We want to replicate our success in the East African market as the leading automobile company.”In a broad way, CMC has been silently transforming itself for a long time—and this will continue.
CMC now stands out of the crowd. It is a preferred automobile company for many private companies, government agencies and ministries. Key to note is also the individual person that understands what it means to own a new car and he continues to tell us that this number is set to grow. CMC has also partnered with quite a number of NGOs to offer them excellent services of car sales especially the Ford and Suzuki vehicles, New Holland tractors have seen agricultural funded entities acquire them for community development programmes.
Acquisition of brand new vehicles is sometimes posed by a financial challenge, especially to individual clients. CMC has thereby crafted flexible payment plans to its customers, either through banks or through a DPA (deferred payment scheme) at their company. This enables its clients to enjoy the comfort and reliability of a new vehicle without going through too much trouble acquiring it.
From the provision of light commercial vehicles, today CMC provides a wide range of medium to heavy commercial vehicles; buses, tractors and trucks. “Our goal is to be a one stop centre for all the clients’ needs,” added Herman. “As part of our long term strategy, we are embarking on opening up more branches in the prime areas of the country as another focus area. These areas will include Mbarara, Gulu, Fort Portal and Hoima. We anticipate that they will operational by mid-June 2016.We want to extend our services more close to the clients,” emphasised the country manager.
CMC Sales, Service and Spares
Growth with a commitment to satisfying our clients has always been the CMC way of doing business and after-sales service is one of the most critical areas for CMC. For years, CMC has evolved to turn around service delivery to all her clients. CMC offers sales, service and spares support to all customers. Urban customers, with increasing regularity, are demanding an improvement in services offered by automobile companies. Companies themselves are aware of this changing trend, with a consumers’ loyalty proportionate to the quality of after-sales service.
“We have continually reinvented ourselves. We see ourselves in the business of building long term relationships and brand loyalty. The important thing to us is to keep looking at external changes in the marketplace and responding to these changes appropriately while continuing to retain our values, which have been our beacon for the past 60 years.” Noted the country manager.
