Luke 2:10-11 but the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. This very day in David’s town your Savior was born—Christ the Lord!”

The Christmas holidays are upon us. This is the best time of the year to relax and be happy. Christ the Lord Our Savior was born on Christmas Day! The true joy of Christmas is to share and impact lives. Happiness is difficult to enjoy alone. These are special days for us all. It is not about feasting. It is about sharing and spreading the good news through being kind to one another. When you share, however little, you experience inner joy and fulfillment.

It is difficult to share what you don’t have. Here is an idea for you: get involved, take responsibility and provide accountability. You are presented with opportunities to prosper daily. I am thankful that God has blessed me with opportunities to meet so many people through my consulting practice. I have observed that the people who are involved by accepting responsibilities get ahead faster than those who do not. For example, to serve on any Board of Trustees or Board of Directors of any company or parastatal, you must be “discovered”. You must be on the radar of the appointing authority so that they can “discover” you.

There are very few, if any, companies or leaders who place adverts in the papers to ask qualified people to apply for jobs to serve on their boards. By the year end 2018, I was serving on over six (6) Boards of Directors! To get an opportunity to serve on the very first one, I accepted a role to act as an MC at a fundraising event. That was the very first time I performed that role. Thank God, the audience found me fantastic, given my good sense of leadership humor.  That opportunity presented itself there and then. The person who had been paid to MC delayed. A friend who had seen me deliver a keynote, asked if I would help step in. Without hesitation, I accepted and picked the microphone.

What do you do when an opportunity knocks on your door?

If you attend any event, make sure you research about the topics before or during the event and try to ask an intelligence question. Arrive early and ask to meet the organizer and inform them about your availability in case any session chair or speaker delays or fails to show up. Things do not always go as planned. The people who get ahead are those who seek for the opportunities and stay ready to grab any that veer their way.  Start this Christmas by trying new things. If you are to visit the same place you were last year, make sure you go with different people. Otherwise, visit a new place altogether. Seek new challenges. You must find ways of stepping out into the limelight. All people look at the center stage not in the dark corners. Be the main actor, not one of the audience members!

I want to thank each one of you readers of this column for your support especially some of you who find time to send to me feedback. As motivators, we enjoy it when we get motivated ourselves. Wish you the very merry Christmas.
